This is Part 2 of trapping nuisance beaver in East Texas near Lake Nacogdoches. In this video, we remove a few beavers from this landowner's property, and one of them is a MONSTER... weighing around 70 lbs. It's got to be some sort of lake record, but there's no real way to verify this. I just know it was a GIANT beaver. #beaver #beavertrapping #beavertrapper #trapping If you live in East Texas...

What is that down on the corner just below the entrance on the left side??? Almost looks like a turtle head, because it's not moving or gill's flapping????.
Great product. Would you consider making a collapsible version for easier storage and transport?
Thank you. Yes sir, I’ve honestly thought about it quite a bit. However, to do so, you would really limit the strength of the holding cage when lifting it out of the water. I’m not exactly sure how I would want to design one where it kept the same strength as it has now. It is a great idea, though.
what hog ring air gun are you using on the 1/2 x 1 wire
Dude! This is cool Mike
Hey man! Thanks... hope you're doing well and sorry I missed you guys in town last weekend.
Enjoyed the catch and release portions!!!
What tool is that brotha and what size clips for a trap like that? Last one I made I used zip ties was a pain in the a** lol.
hey man, yeah... zip ties are a ton of work. This was a pneumatic hog ringer in the video that uses 1/2 inch rings. Good luck
In commercial minnow harvesting, theres two truths, galvanized and shiny traps will outproduce a black yrap 3:1 even when baited. If it rusts up, hit it with cold galvanizing spray paint in the off season. Rule #2 at least in mn: the best bait is a block of white styrofoam floating on a cord in the center of the trap. in the center
i don`t understand why you let some go. To small???
Hi Carl, thanks for the comment. Yes sir, if I recall correctly, we had a lot of fish and stopped keeping the smallest ones. I really like the 2-10 lb range (if I had to choose).
i guess some knee pads could help some
When will it hit the market and how much is the price? I'm needing one for live bait to put on my limb lines.
Hi Michael, thanks for the comment. It's live now on the site. I forgot to add the link to the description, so thanks for the reminder. I will drop a link below to make it easier to find though. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you, sir. www.reeltexasoutdoors.com/collections/bait-fish-traps/products/premium-cloverleaf-bait-fish-trap
i didnt see a single fish swim sideways and enter the trap. i saw two edits, both times "MO FISH". but never saw a single fish enter the gate.
Im confused by your comment. Is it implying that the fish were placed inside the trap? Ive made one trap to date with horizontal openings, and this is the one in the video. It was an experiment for fun, but it clearly caught the fish. I would use this trap now only in certain situations, for like crawfish. It's not ideal for bait fish.
instead of using the wire grid with the 1 inch holes going vertically.... turn it 90 degrees so that the half inch holes go vertically.... i mean... maybe a fish might try to swim horizontally to escape but... i dont think so. laymens terms. the walls of your trap have the 1 inch holes on the wire going up and down. why ? fish are tall , not wide. turn the walls so that the wire runs half inch tall holes and 1 inch wide holes. i doubt most 1 inch fish will swim horizontally to escape.
Good idea. However, the traps are cut the way they are to save wire and time cutting/assembling the traps. If I were to cut the wire in a manner that made the mesh run horizontally, I would have to use a ton more wire, make more cuts, and use more time to build one. It's just not efficient to build one this way, unfortunately. However, it's a non issue now as we make traps out of 1/2 x 1/2 heavy gauge wire also.
hey. thanks for taking the time to explain to me the difference between a captial N and a captial Z.
Hey, you are welcome. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
Love your videos and good releases
Thanks so much! Appreciate you, sir.
You are most welcome
good releases, you will catch the beaver on fresh sign . thanks for the shout out .
Thank you, sir. I’ll be sure to use the lure again, for sure.
@@ReelTexasOutdoors have fun with it .
glad you got them caught . i have a feeling the big female is holed up with new kits . at least that is what they are doing here .
Yes sir, I’m sure you’re right. The last big female I caught had just recently been nursing some kits. At least she appeared that way. I bet this fella has one more out there somewhere also.
Yea I’m trapping a place on Weyco property I’ve killed 4 cottonmouths in to days doesn’t matter how much off I put on still have ticks on me
Haha, man…. No joke. It’s a bad heavy snake year for sure. I saw probably six yesterday alone. #TrappinAintEazy 😂
Glad you got the 3 best way to check if beavers are present is get the water flowing weather it’s a culvert are a dam
Yes sir, for sure. Appreciate the comments and view. Have a great one, man.
all things in life are lessons to learn from . great words in your story .
Thank you, sir! Appreciate the comment.
Good listen
Thanks Billy! Appreciate you, sir.
Good Word! Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks man! Hope you guys are doing well. Enjoy seeing your family posts on FB!
Psycho killer.
Dang, well that escalated quickly. You don’t seem to be the type of person capable of civil discourse in this arena, so I won’t bother with trying to explain the need for beaver control. I’ll just say that I’m sorry you felt the need to leave such a negative comment regarding someone you don’t even know.
we make a castor lure that will load your sets . if you are going to keep doing damage jobs , i can send you a 4 oz jar . Alpha Delta Castor Lure . a lot of you tube channels are using it .
Hey man, thanks for reaching out. Lord willing, I will continue to incorporate trapping jobs into my channel. I have another video coming soon, and another job lined out next week, so I will have some content to produce coming up. I just ordered some more lure today, but I am interested in what you have. Please email me at mike@reeltexasoutdoors.com when you get a chance and we can chat. Thanks again, sir. Have a good one!

I also build traps. I'm a huge fan of your work. The only thing I have to say about horizontal openings is that I end up with a lot more young turtles. Keep on trapping!
Thanks for the comment, I sincerely appreciate it. To be honest, this is the only trap I have ever built with horizontal openings. I have built thousands of traps with vertical, but I still have this one to date. It’s not very practical for fish, but it isn’t bad for crawfish and other things that crawl up the ramps. Overall, it’s an okay trap, but I would not recommend it for fish exclusively. I have not caught any turtles in it however I don’t typically use it very much either. Either way, thank you again for the comment. I sincerely appreciate you.
Yep, just consider snares to be one and done. Slim chance of reusing. More trapping and snaring east Texas please.🤠👍
Yes sir…. Slim chance for sure. Thanks for commenting and I’ll def try to post more ETX trapping videos. Part 2 coming soon also. Thank you, sir. Have a good one!
How do order AZ trap and how long does it take to get one
Hi Lloyd, thanks for the comment and question. You can check out our traps at www.reeltexasoutdoors.com. Current lead time is about 7 business days from order date. It's the busy season, so it's been taking me just over a week to get an order out the door right now. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, man.
Im in Louisiana! What town you in? I might drive over & pick one up
Hi Nathan, I’m East Texas near Nacogdoches. Let me know if you ever want to pick one up. I’ll be happy to meet you in the area somewhere. Thanks man. Have a good one.
do you have a preference for a trap used in creeks and rivers vs lake and ponds?
Hi Clayton, my apologies for the slow response. I think it would depend on whether or not you can find some pockets/pools of slow moving water. If so, then I would go with a Z-trap. If you cannot and you have to bait it, then I would say clover. Check out that last short i posted on the channel. That guy was using one of my Z-traps in a creek and caught a ton. Hope this helps man, have a good one.
What is this trap tied together with ??? And your location ???
I used zip ties when I make em. Instead of cutting them I weave the end into the trap so I don’t get cut on the sharp ends.
I’m from east Texas also, I also saw no life jackets in the boat or on your kid !!!
Thanks for the comment and appreciate the concern. This is a small pond and both boys were wearing life jackets… Go to 8:30 and see the blue vest he’s wearing. Either way, I’m sure your comment was of genuine concern, so I do appreciate that, sir. Have a good one.

Good job, nice one!
Thanks bud!
Great video man little long but good vid
Thank you, sir... and agree. I was a bit long winded, but I was not about to record it a 3rd time, lol. Have a good one, man.
Leave the small ones for the bait flathead will eat smaller catfish
I've definitely seen that happen. We've also caught a lot of fish just baiting up our lines b/c a smaller fish will hit the bare hook and then the larger cat will eat them. Pretty wiled and always a good surprise. Thanks for the comment as well, sir!
Get the dip net! Lol
Why are you trapping beavers 🦫?
Hi Darla. They’re destroying the land owners property and causing issue. In this location.
Caught a 15lb steelhead last spring beaver trapping in a creek behind my house set in a run like that snapped perfect right behind the gills. Took it home and ate it used it's head as bait in a bucket set and got an otter the next day in the same creek.
Dang man! That would be a sweet catch. I thought about a fish getting into this set… but it would have most likely been a bowfin knowing my luck, haha. Catching a steelhead in a trap would be pretty dang cool.
Nice catch!
Thanks Jay!
Just subbed!!!
Thanks brotha!
your not a nice guy
You don't even know me. That's being pretty narrow-minded, no?
Hey bud I’d like to know what brand also length your camo aluminum boat is with the Yamaha 150. Also if there is anything you don’t like about it and if you would purchase again? I am looking into getting a boat and like the look of yours. Thank you in advance for your time and keep up with the great content. Thanks
Hi Ross! That boat is a G3 1910, in camp obviously. I do like the boat… I purchased it because I wanted something without carpet that my boys could eat snacks and spill red Gatorade in without it staining. This is super easy to clean out as you simply just wash it off at a car wash. Also like the fact that I can use it for almost any type of fishing, whether catfish or bass fishing. Again, being super easy to clean off is the key for me. The boat rides okay, and top end is around 55 miles an hour. I won’t say it’s an exceptional ride or anything like that, but it gets the job done. Really the only two negative things I have to say about it are the hatches and weight distribution. They did not waterproof the hatches very well at all. When it rains hard water will roll in down the sides and get your rods wet. The center hatch, where all your tackle goes does stay dry, but the side hatches where my rods definitely get wet. Weight is the other issue. If you don’t run lithium ion batteries and upgrade to regular batteries in the back, it will definitely sink the rear of the boat some. I know this is common with a lot of boats, but it seems a little bit bit worse on this lighter aluminum G3. Just be prepared to run lithium ion batteries if you get this boat. Finally, I would be about 60/40 on buying again. I might look into a center consul type rig with a 90 hp before purchasing a sportsman/bass, boat style boat. That’s just my preference though. There’s nothing wrong with this boat at all and if you plan to do a lot of bass fishing out of it, then this is a great boat. Now, I don’t recommend it solely for trotlines, as you saw in the other video though. It is quite too heavy for that, but it can get the job done. I hope this information helps some. Best of luck in whatever decision you make.
Thank you tremendously for the info and feedback on this it helps me a ton. Have a great evening and thank you again!!
@@user-fw1gr8pv8f - you bet. You are very welcome.
What's the best bait for bluegill in these traps?
I thought in Texas for a trotlines they have to be attached to a permanent fixture on both ends
Hey there, thank you for the comment and question. Running them between two clumps of concrete blocks is probably more solid thsn tying to a tree. Actually, they will be there a lot longer than that tree will be. We use both, but these lines were all sunk with blocks.
I thought in Texas for a trotlines they have to be attached to a permanent fixture on both ends
Enjoyed the family beaver excursion. Congrats on the catches.
Thank you, Darrell. I appreciate you, sir!
What are you’re outer perimeter measurements for where you make your bends?
do you enjoy torture and causing extreme terror? I guess you do. This poor beaver drowned in agony. For what?
How does those southern furs compare to the northern ones? I know the Canadians that venture south to the fur auctions usually only come as far south as the Midwest.
Hey Tom, thanks for the question. These were nuisance beaver and not being trapped for the fur. I’m no expert on the fur trade, but as a general rule of thumb southern fur is a lot less valuable. In Texas, we don’t have a real winter so our critters don’t grow the thick full coats their northern cousins do. Now, southern fur willl still sale, it’s just not as valuable. Have a good one, sir.
@@ReelTexasOutdoors thank you sir for awnsering my question.ive trapped in Ohio about 15 yrs and have taken about 95 beaver, one sold at the auction for220$ it was the best one that year.64 lb,47 3/4" nose to tail hide score was 74" that's with and length added .after stretching and dryed
@@tomrose6292- man, 64lbs is a solid beaver… nice! I don’t think we get anywhere near that $220 mark on the fur down here though. That would be nice. Thank you again for commenting. Have a good one, sir!
